The only woman to identify Carlton Gary at trial as the so-called “Columbus Stocking Strangler” has been excluded from being his rape victim by DNA testing, a court motion filed Monday says.

Friends and family gather outside the Columbus home of Ferne Jackson in September 1977. Jackson, 59, was the first of seven women raped and strangled to death by the Stocking Strangler. Carlton Gary, a lifelong criminal, was convicted of three of the killings and sentenced to death. Test results announced last week indicate the DNA in one of the victims did not come from Gary.
