The Georgia Supreme Court has ruled in favor of a Savannah golf club and homeowners association that had been sued for the wrongful death of an elderly woman whose family said she was killed by an alligator in the gated community in 2007.
The 4-3 decision reversed a March 2011 state Court of Appeals ruling that found The Landings Club and The Landings Association may have been liable for damages under the plaintiffs’ premises liability argument, which said the defendants didn’t do enough to keep residents safe from large, aggressive alligators that lived in the lagoons throughout the gated community.
