Rebecca Keaton’s answer to charges that she’s a career politician: It was a partisan election.
Marietta lawyer Rebecca Keaton won the runoff election for clerk of Cobb County Superior Court Tuesday with 62 percent of the vote.
“I’m thrilled about the opportunity to work with all the great people in the clerk’s office,” said Keaton.
“She beat me in all but three of 153 precincts,” said her opponent, Marietta real estate attorney John Skelton. “Even in Powder Springs, where I go to church. I’m very disappointed.”
Keaton took 16,347 votes compared with Skelton’s 10,007, or 38 percent.
To do it, she had to beat not only her opponent, but also the incumbent, Jay Stephenson, who had recruited Skelton to the race.
Stephenson is retiring after 28 years on the job. He backed Skelton financially and campaigned for him.
“I’m disappointed,” said Stephenson.
